Welcome!
Welcome!
Hello! I'm Michael Bodary ("Dr. B"), and I teach English I, II, III, ACT Prep, and English Dual Enrollment courses here at C-DHS.
I graduated from Cannon County High School in Woodbury, TN, which is so small it makes Greeneville look like a metropolis! Afterwards, I picked up five degrees: undergraduate degrees in Anthropology and English, master's degrees in English and Teaching, and a doctorate in English.
Prior to coming to C-DHS, I taught English at the University of Memphis and Tusculum University. My dual-enrollment courses taught in-person at C-DHS give students college credit at East Tennessee State University.
English, to me, is much more than literature, poetry, and essays; it's also the language of science, technology, and business--and I try to propagate this pluralistic, pragmatic perspective into my classroom (occasionally while using literary techniques like alliteration). My English background, focused on professional/technical writing, provided me many opportunities to work in industry writing FDA submissions, lab reports, ISO 13485 quality systems, research grants, instruction manuals, public relations materials, product packaging, websites, shareholder information, business plans, research reports, policy/procedural documentation, etc.
Parents/Guardians who want to track their students' activity/performance
If you are a parent or guardian who wishes to see what your student is doing (or not doing!) in my courses, there is a PDF in the right column that contains instructions for setting yourself up as an Observer in my Canvas-based C-DHS courses.
ETSU courses must use D2L instead of Canvas, and parents/guardians should follow these instructions or--alternatively--contact ETSU for assistance.
No classroom library for students
To ensure my classroom is in compliance with Tennessee Senate Bill 2407 (https://www.capitol.tn.gov/Bills/112/Bill/SB2407.pdf), I removed access to my student library. However, students may still make use of the school's library, public libraries, and the Library of Congress (https://www.loc.gov/).
